The Ever-Changing Creative Process

Spread the love

A couple years ago I took a picture behind the Civic Centre (which no longer exists) in Elliot Lake. It was a winter evening. I was taking an art workshop. It was a full moon and I spent a few minutes gazing in solitude, in the stairwell because it had a floor to ceiling window that gave an unobstructed view. I felt the splendor and magic that the Cold Moon (January) cast upon the stark boneyard of birch trees glowing from the indigo night that embraced them. It was breathtaking. I took a photo on my phone and of course nothing I felt was captured in the fuzzy picture. But I promised myself I would use it as a reference to paint it someday. I think I have captured the spirituality and magic of what I saw. This is my foray into oils; so luscious and beautiful. Thank you to Brian Williams for my first lesson in oils and palette knife. It also marks a departure from my abstract work.

“Cold Moon” references the January moon within various Indigenous & Pagan cultures. I invite you to read the accompanying poetry on this website. Poetry, pg 6….”In twilight moments, I have dreamed the dreams of trees”
